I've been learning about Porotech hellojello as they've partnered with IQE for supplying the GAN wafers for mass production. You'll know as much as me if you're wacthing those vids. It's early days (at least 3 or 4 years until there'll be anything on the market) but it does look like a game changer for display. Ridiculous specs - 3 million nits, 1000x improvement on refresh rates, low power consumption, etc. I don't see why they'd ever link up with NANO but it could be a compelling combination for an OEM to put in a product.

Only thing I've heard about DPT is that it's been tried before and couldn't handle images in motion. Can't see that being a problem with a super high refresh rate laser dislpay though.

Fair play to AL for talking tough. He's doing all he can. However, despite the fact we can all see that compound semis are going to be an absolutely massive global industry I'd be amazed if the current government produce anything to help at all. They haven't got a clue about long term planning, how to support business or have the firepower to compete with the US, EU and China.

Last time I checked on Phillips which admittedly was several years ago they weren't using cadmium free and making their own.

My opinion for what it's wort HH is that BT didn't know what the settlement offer would be until it was made. He probably wanted a lot more because he agrees with most of us here that it's not anywhere near close to fair value but that the funders pulled the plug and there was nothing he could do. There would have been plenty of clauses in the contract they could use to pressure NANOs board to take the money now rather than push the case further.

No joint ventures for building factories or collaboration on research with large potential competitors until they have signed a licensing agreement. Supply agreements only during the collab stage. So far they are doing so with sensors and that's one positive for the rest of us to take away.

Well, mixed feelings on that. It really is a low figure but still a significant sum to NANO. Represents daylight robbery by Samsung overall. If I were them I'd crack on trying to steal the sensor tech asap. Certainly no deterrant to do so here.

It's just my opinion. Might well be wrong. All the info on Apple's display efforts talk about micro LED. No idea what route they're going down with that.

My view is Samsung will have the monopoly on QLED unfortunately but it's not cut and dried. There's room for niche products and other players to try to compete on performance and price. Maybe some of those products will take off and produce a decent display business for NANO. Micro LED much less sure. The technology is at a much earlier stage. It might not involve QDs at all. That's one side of the story and not quite as I remember it at the time. No company should accept a loan, go quiet and meet no repayments. Then plead surprise and put the blame off on the creditor when the loan's called in. I agree it was a bit of a strange one. I don't think it's usual for local councils to be supporting start ups with finance anyway and 2012 was at the peak of Osbourne's draconian local authority finding cuts.

Comment on Bloomberg yesterday to the effect that copper prices short term will depend on whether the China reopening takes off or not as port warehouses there are full of copper right now. Doesn't appear to be affecting the price at the moment though.

Certainly nothing to get excited about and even guiding that 1H 2023 could be even softer.

Also, NANO will be supplying the sensing material lobo not licensing. If the settlement was to set a licensing cost precedent the different model for production would allow a clean break from said precedent.

Worth noting as well down the line that if these sensors find their way in cars, smartphones and any number of other devices there would be a much bigger market than TVs.
