The latest Investing Matters Podcast with Jean Roche, Co-Manager of Schroder UK Mid Cap Investment Trust has just been released. Listen here.
I don't disagree with the comments. Wider market seems to be taking a bumming and kick in the nuts all at the same time. Thing that amazes me is that many companies have performed well yet the SP has never recovered. It makes it an interesting time to be seeking out a great dividend stock. Wish i had more capital floating around. Current dividend is over 9% again. PE is 6.
So why is FTSE down today? whats the excuse? COVID ? Afghanistan ? something else ?
At some point the market has to wake up and see that these UK companies are actually performing and at current price offer considerable value against US counterparts where some are trading on excessive PE's and because of it paying low yield divi's. UK is string and will get stronger. We are the best and seem to be very underrated and undervalued
COVID ?
Afghanistan ?
Greed ?
I really dont get this anymore.
Someone put me out of my misery and tell me where my capital is safe and i can get at least 5% return tax free ?
Anyone ???
UK market at its best. What a con this all is. If only today was the actual payment date. I may be able to understand it and actually benefit from dividend reinvestment.
This really is pathetic. double the divi drop an they haven't even paid it out yet. It wouldn't be so bad if you could actually receive the payment today and buy immediately. Must remember to keep sufficient capital to cover the divi's in future and take more advantage of the pathetic UK investors. People must be as thick as 5hit.
Same old 5hit from the UK market. But the carp out of it
This is a good time to accumulate in a business that is making the transition to clean energy. It's best not to make this overnight as it would include some bad investments. H2 really is coming. The UK has Hynet and currently other projects in detailed design or feasibility stages. That H2 will have to be supplied from somewhere. Currently this will be blue hydrogen but with wind and solar its very possible that down the road in 5 years time, maybe longer green hydrogen will be the preferred method. BP are clearly looking at the future, will be continuing with oil but also growing the green transition with some excellent projects
Because the general market is stupid.
Thats my approach MrMath. I am looking for the dividend now. Compounding these returns annually by reinvestment. If the SP is low at the time of reinvestment then all the better as i get more for my money. These companies are operating on such low PE's but currently showing growth in returns on an annual basis. It doesnt make sense how the overal value of the business can go down whilst the underlying profitability tends to increase. Regardless of COVID many companies have been resilient.
The stock is not performing so badly. The market is just thick. Both PHNX and MNG taking a right bumming pre ex divi date. Its a fooking gift. When i receive the lovely divi from both i will reinvest. UK permabear needs to wake up. Where else can you get 7-8+% plus return on your capital. Divi's also increase each year so that just adds to the return. SP dropping is the pathetic over reaction from the permanently bearish UK market. For me its a buy and reinvest to grow and compound the returns. Diversity being the key not all eggs in one or two baskets.
Its funny because I could never see this pretax loss when I read the H1 results. I read this statement only
Group operating profit of £527m in H1 2021 (H1 2020: £361m
Well where are investors putting their capital then. I have some here but only 6% of the PF. Got to diversify but BP is an important part of that. Oil is here to stay for some time yet. Even rushing the H2 economy will take years then there is all the oil based products which are not fuels that won't go away.
Not worried. Thanks for the clear explanation.
What is the excuse for the smash down today ?
Anyone ?
COVID ?
Afghanistan?
This market is pathetic.
Any excuse to smash the FTSE 100. So much value across it now its unbelievable.
Yes. All my capital is locked in here, MNG, LGEN and DLG for the excellent dividend. Not hugely concerned about growth but can see room to move considering each has published decent half yearly results. SP could rise simply to reduce the dividend.
Trytry, I am still here.
But that Hydrogen will come from natural gas through steam methane reforming. Blue hydrogen will be the supply and not green. Therefore derived from fossil fuel with Carbon Capture.
