I'm expecting Telfer will be merged with either Scallywag or Havieron to be able to keep it's Tier 1 status.
Barrick did this with 2 mines last year I can't remember which ones at the moment

Yes I read that, I did apply, but they said I was too old! What I'm only 21, well in my head :))
Drilling at a 60 degree angle NCM are already exceeding 2,000m but only reaching 1200m vertically.
Very challenging to get beyond 2,000m especially with the temperatures around 45 degrees at the moment, I admire those chaps who can do it.
While we are waiting for more NCM drill reports just spare a thought for these chaps who are sweltering in the heat.

The deepest mine I've seen while looking around Australia is the Mount Isa mine in Queensland. It's in hard rock and goes down to 1800m.

Havieron has 420m of cover
1100m ore body
= 1,520m
I posted last autumn that I thought the Decline would get to below 1200m of ore body which would = 1,620m
My reasoning for this is studying the drilling results.
The few that have reported between 1000 & 1100 have either shown the grades getting weaker or in places very good grades.
Below 1200 I'm not sure of the economics of going further.
The amount of drilling though has been very sparse at these levels and may hit some good spots in the future and Havieron might end up as the deepest mine in Australia .

There are plans for burrow pits and drainage collection points to allow for diesel contamination.
Open just means the mineralisation continues beyond the known drill holes

The 30m width includes the passing bays and turning circles.
They can't run those big trucks on long distances because of the tyres, they can't take the pressures and heat .
Road trains will be used initially.
On Australian roads they only allow a maximum of 134tons on one of these road trains and can be a mixture of A and B trailers, so you might get the truck pulling 2 large A trailers and 2 small B trailers or 3 A trailers.
On private mine roads they're pulling upto 5 trailers

If you consider transporting 10m tons 365 days a year at say 120ton per trip
That's 228 road train trips , that will obviously be too much to handle by road.
Then there are the other 3 options they were looking at
Conveyor - The dust problem with that maybe problematic
Pipeline- Will use a huge amount of water
Train line- An obvious choice in my view, when you see some of the lengths of these ore trains , 7km long

The plant at Telfer will be taking in ore from all around not just Scallywag and Havieron.
The costs for dismantling the plant and reclaiming the land back to a safe condition are big numbers and Newcrest would want to avoid this for as long as possible.
Havieron and Scallywag may both become a Tier 1 in their own right but Telfer will lose that status on its own, an almagation is likely soon to keep Telfer in that high Tier

There's a lot in the Mining Lease application on the evaporation ponds and water treatment.
The ponds will be at different levels, salts are heavy and settle at the bottom, the weaker solution runs off to the next pond.
I've seen a water treatment plant mentioned and osmosis.
Could be a good sideline selling salt :))

I think they have to do something to reduce the waste rock and there is not much room at Havieron to play with.
The new road lease is for 30m wide have they left enough room for a chu chu :))

Hyper saline is what is in the Lower Tillite at the bottom of the Decline, it's something to do with the massive sulphide occurrence but didn't understand how or why.

Thinking about what lies ahead after this first stage and the fact that water approvals are still to be defined.

They did a lot of vertical drilling to assess what water quantities and directional flows for the first phase of the Decline.
What I'm expecting now is further deep drilling out to the SE to assess the water situation for the second phase of the deeper Decline.
I'm fairly sure this is not part of the present approval process but is a major part of the mine planning for the Feasibility Study.

Which video am I looking for, is it the Box cut.
That's the sort of project I used to run, did you see the driller with the grouting.
The waste dump is the sort of shape that will soon be seen at Havieron although we are restricted to 15m high on this particular mound.
When they eventually get down to the ore body they will be in the Lower Tillite rock which when removed will cover this first mound and will be rolled, compacted to shape to prevent dispersal of the mound contents.
The big machine near the start with a blade in the centre is a grading machine which shapes the ground and can form cambers

If you link your post with the Mining Report you can see why there were so many holes drilled around the Box cut to investigate the water table.
There is a cross section/ 3D model showing where the water is lying/ flowing and the quantities they will encounter, indicated by 'contours ' P90 and P10 similar to oil industry anolagies. P90 meaning that 10% will be above the stated figure and P10 meaning 90% above that figure.
They then put this information into the timeline graph showing the Decline start and the ventilation shaft Start and the water extraction required shown in blue between the P90 and P10 averages.

Hope that makes sense.

There was a lot to take in from your post.
One striking piece of information from a graph matches those I put on from BHP.
Peak of discoveries in around 1987 there were about 60 discoveries costing $4bn in exploration expenses.
By 2014 less than 10 discoveries cost upwards of $9bn.

We will have to brace ourselves for an incredible upturn in metal prices which is about to hit us, due to a lack of exploration Capex mainly by the majors and also the lack of commercially viable discoveries.
2022 will be the crunch year in my view

There are some interesting graphs on this presentation, the theme of which is assessing what is a Tier 1 asset
It's only up to 2006 but Gold finds are a lot lower now.
The one graph shows the gold finds back to 1950 ' witwatersrand ' can be seen at the top left.
The fall in precious metal finds fell dramatically after 2000

2x 24m veins

Havieron just a couple 205.6m @ 0.24% Cu
298.8m @ 0.11% cu

CCZ do seem to have The Platinum Group Metals as well
