This has been a brilliant share to own and it was a smart move by Whitbread to have gotten out of brewing and into leisure. It seems to me that people are still buying at this high SP so is a consolidation really needed?.ATB

I inherited my Whitbread shares back in 2008 when the Probate Value was less than £11.........its gone up fourfold since then and I believe it will continue rising possibly up to £60 within 3 to 5 years. Plenty of space to expand in India/China.

Apart from Liberium Capital's "buy" recommendation today, has amyone got any idea why this is up 4.5%?.

Wasn't it Starbucks who were castigated by the press for not paying much Corporation Tax in this country?.

Ok, so we should be receiving something in the post soon. At least the SP seems to have steadied somewhat since the initial drop when the announcement was made. As long as the 6p per share divvy is maintained I am not too bothered.

Not sure that I really understand what is going on here. Can someone explain to me what practical affect this sale will have on existing shareholders like me.

Am I reading this right....has Rusty sold his FGP shares?......after all those emails telling us how the SP was going to rocket. Seems somewhat ironic, given this long-awaited rise we are now having.

You say airports are a "small part" ..however I think I read or heard on the TV that the company had invested £100 million in Southend..........this equates to about 20% of Stobart's market cap...............please correct me if I'm wrong.

....I guess there's nothing wrong with being optimistic, although I do wonder whether you would be so upbeat if you weren't a shareholder?. I think that the Right Issue shares were priced at 85pence....sorry to be picky. However if you knock off the £600 million from the market cap figure you are left with less than 800 million which is somewhat worrying given that they paid around double that for the American business (Laidlaw) back in '07. Not that long ago the SP was over £4 a share so there is an awful lot of ground to be made up, although I do appreciate that there are more shares in issue which obviously drags the SP down.

....re the last para below..........presumably the £1.4 Billion market cap of First includes the £600+ million raised in the RI, which is somewhat worrying and makes one wonder where all the cash has gone, given that it is a highly cash generative business turning over more than £6 billion annually.

This was purchased just before the global meltdown so the price paid at the time may have been reasonable, just bad timing possibly.However given that another £600 million of shareholders money has been pumped into it quite recently the SP is very disappointing to say the least., given that it was over £4 not that long ago. Only saving grace is that its above the Right's Issue price of 85p and i took up my full allocation. Where can you see the share price at the close of business next Wednesday?.
