Whats causing the Oil company rises today is it Trade deal part one about to be announced ?
I notice OldFatprop's Oil futures are up a massive 0.35%. You couldn't make it up, we all know oil stocks don't track futures tick for tick !

Probably not beat Enquests 12% rise today but this rally has got LONG legs. This could very well increase 3 X from 58p. Enquest is much less likely to increase 3 fold from 26p. I am pleased to see Enquest rise but also gutted as at one time I had 75% of my portfolio in Enquest av high 18s ( Brent was in the $70s.

When you say Oil futures I presume you are looking at front month or even 3 or 4 months out.
If you take Brent for March 2021 delivery it closed at $60.64 on 2nd Jan, today it has closed at $59.70

A massive 0.01% but still better than an increase.

I am also aware of shorts which can be borrowed with any Rights ( voting or otherwise ) attached. Assume nothing especially with increasingly complicated financial instruments.

I know of two people ex CEOs of $multi billion companies who are very much out of any contractual obligations.

Well Google, Apple and Tesla seem to think we all will.
As a side point I think part of the pushing of E.V.s is because 'they' know getting legal permission/ public approval for an I.C.E. self driving car would be much more difficult than for an Electric self driving car.
