The latest Investing Matters Podcast with Jean Roche, Co-Manager of Schroder UK Mid Cap Investment Trust has just been released. Listen here.
NDN - that settles it. Grant shapps has just tweeted the following
2hours ago. So he has just secured what we already had, which does mean the agreement signed didn’t have it.
“ Welcome news for UK drivers ???? ??. We've now secured agreement with all 27 EU Member States to recognise UK licences WITHOUT the need for an International Drivers Permit. From tomorrow, UK drivers can continue to drive in the EU without an IDP (once Covid restrictions lifted).”
NDN you are funny
“ You do not need an international driving permit (IDP) to visit and drive in the EU, Switzerland, Iceland or Liechtenstein”
Applies to today. This statement describes the CHANGE.
Then, from the 1st of January, this is the CHANGE
Driving in Europe from 1 January 2021
The rules for driving, passports, EHIC cards, pet travel and more may change from 1 January 2021. Check if you need to act now to make sure you can travel as planned.
You might need an IDP to drive in some EU countries and Norway from 1 January 2021 if you have:
a paper driving licence
a licence issued in Gibraltar, Guernsey, Jersey or the Isle of Man
Check with the embassy of the country you will be driving in.
Here is the actual text from the government site, this time including the headings which describe the difference, that being, a standard British driving licence may not be enough in some EU countries & some non EU countries. Can you see the CHANGE?

Check which IDP you need
Check the table to find out if you need an IDP. There are 3 types of IDP:
1926
1949
1968
The IDP you need depends on what country you’re visiting.
If you don’t believe me, here’s you beloved lie rag telling you

NDN - I do hate it when you accuse me of lying, only to prove I’m right with your RAC quote.
But it effects non Eu countries too
“There are two different types of IDP you might need in Europe. For France and Germany, for example, some of those people will need a 1968 IDP.
There is also a 1949 IDP, which covers visits to Andorra, for example.
It may turn out that if you are driving through different European countries from next year you will need to buy both types.
It's also possible that the type of IDP you need to drive in countries outside Europe will change once the UK is no longer a member of the EU. You can find the full list of which IDPs you need worldwide on this page .“
On vaccines - there has been a huge debate about this in the states, their science explains very well why this could be a false dawn from both a protection & social responsibility perspective.
Surely there’s only one science? & seeing as the U.K. government keeps getting it wrong, when they work contrary to other countries finding, I have my doubts. But then I feel same way about the rollout... surely we should be vaccinating doctors, nurses healthcare workers & schools, both children, parents & teachers to get the country going, not 99 year olds?
On Brexit - I’m not trying to change anything, other than wanting some honesty, so the country can get back on track. I’m not saying anything about this deal that’s not true. I don’t need to lie to make this case.
Raymondo - yes I agree, I would hate to think where we would be, if the loons got their way
I don’t think vaccine or Brexit is done yet. There’s talk of only doing 1 vaccination jab for partial protection & until the government start telling the truth about their trade deal, the country won’t be able to sort it out. It looks like the U.K. economy will find it harder to trade both inside & outside its borders now, whilst Northern Ireland will find it easier to trade with Belgium than Birmingham. U.K. driving license no good, neither are key U.K. qualifications, rules on origin makes red tape a disaster & removes any idea of tariff free trade into EU & today we learn the U.K. has agreed to fully comply european court rulings )as reported by daily express) funnily enough....... it’s a mess & lying doesn’t change any of it.
NDN - what exactly are you proposing? The trade deal with the EU and other rolled over nonsense ones undermine the U.K. economy & or investments, but because you don’t like it being the reason or contributing factor, you don’t want it mentioned on this board, so we can just keep discussing pretend mm & other conspiracy theories?
Does that sum it up?
In which case no.
I’m afraid to say, markets are not fooled by the surrender deal, despite the dishonesty in the commons today. As details come through, it’s not an FTA, it’s not tariff free, services & uk qualifications & security not covered, we have internal borders, Kent and Irish Sea so the U.K. will be harder to do business with internally and externally. It looks like this currently out weighs good news about vaccines. When does the con stop? & proper government start? Will be the question on investor minds, imo
Deal done, if you call it a deal, we’ve left. The biggest overriding impact on U.K. economy is certainly the ramifications.
I’m guessing your family & friends are like you. Shame is a terrible thing I guess, best to sweep it under the carpet
Fleccy - “old news “
Oh really. That has to go down as one of your biggest in thinking moments (amongst many)
Covid should have an end, although was reading today that the U.K. variant is worrying close to something experts refer to “vaccination escape”, the changes observed are quite a long way down the road of defeating this generation of vaccines
The other surrender agreement will create an ongoing impact of course & I really don’t think anyone sensible. Is seeing that as an economic advantage to the U.K.
It’s all about decline, the argument is now how far will this decline go. Suddenly, at best U.K. has become harder to do business with, in some cases WITH ITS SELF !!!!
Fleccy - they have 350m vaccinations already on order / being delivered. They also paid 10 euro per jab, less than the U.K. did.......
Won’t go over again why the oxford vaccine has issues, we’ve already done that, where you Dunning Kruger hit peak & made fool out of yourself.
