Bank of England says banks' dividend curb won't have long-term impact

The Bank of England's request in March for banks to restrain dividend payments will not change the amount of payouts over the longer term, its executive director for financial stability said on Wednesday.

"This is a dividend DELAYED rather than a dividend destroyed forever. It does not change the amount of distributions banks will make over the long run," Brazier told an online event held by the CSFI think tank.
"It does require a degree of patience from investors," he added.

The BoE regards payouts as an "important and necessary" part of the functioning of the banking system, and will undertake "very careful analysis" this quarter of banks' distribution
plans, Brazier said.

"We need to take into account bank profitability and their ability to generate capital organically," he said.

I retired early - my investment income dropped to zero, I could have dug into my saving but I chose to limit my spending instead, thru the lockdowns it wasn't difficult to limit spending, My 2nd car is still off the road

O'yeah, I had my fair and reasonable return from my pre covid 2019 investment cancelled under instruction from the PRA - had to live on bread n water for several years - with hindsight it turns out Lloy could have managed without it - since 2020 my 2019 dividend has been enriching Lloys earnings to the benefit of current shareholders - but you don't think people in my position are owed anything - who is being selfish?

UPDATE ON DIVIDEND PAYMENTS

In response to a request from the PRA and to preserve additional capital for use in serving our clients, the board has agreed to cancel payment of the final 2019 dividend in relation to ordinary shares. Accordingly, resolution 17 in relation to the declaration of that dividend will be withdrawn from the AGM, Our board will decide on any dividend policy and amounts at year-end.

The person responsible for arranging the release of this announcement is Douglas Radcliffe, Group Investor Relations Director.

Just a reminder of what happened to 2019 shareholders
With hindsight it can be argued that withdrawing the 2019 divi was unnecessary,
Retaining the 2019 divi has directly contributed to the strength of the company today -
IMO it's only right and proper that 2019 shareholders are now fairly compensated

Can I take this opportunity to urge Scots to maintain an element of support for the SNP - the last thing we need is the total collapse of the party leading to a resurgent of Labour seats north of the border

A very basic comparison that does not include divi yield, IMO those still suggesting Lloy is 'the worst share ever' or a 'dire share' seriously need to examine their concept of investing.
