A somewhat delayed response, but I don't check this thread very often.

How long is a long term view? I have owned this for several years and am sitting on huge losses - obviously I bought in at the wrong time. For what it's worth, I don't believe the overall China economy will prosper any time soon, some individual companies obviously will but I don't have confidence in this manager's stock picking abilities. Do I believe JCGI will do better than the vast number of other opportunities? No, and I should have got out long ago but now plan to take my capital losses before 5 April. I agree that some broad China exposure is probably desirable, but the country (like others) has some serious structural problems, and I'll take my chances elsewhere.

I think it is because AB Foods just reported poor results, with European sales/profits particularly down. Tesco results have also been poorly received. As 3i is primarily a European food retailer (via its majority holding in Action), it is down in sympathy

Interesting comments, and I certainly plan to wait and see. However, you would think that the BOD would have got the nod from those IIs before presenting what is clearly a well-developed (I don't mean good) plan

If you are a direct shareholder, you will be given a choice by voting. But I think many PIs will exit before that, not wanting to own US shares and possibly facing a US withholding tax on the cash offer. I will probably exit, but there is no rush as nothing much will happen before May at the earliest, and I don't think there is much downside from 75p. This is clearly a merger or even a RTO, hence the microscopic premium (it is not technically a takeover or bid). It does have a whiff of BOD stitch up to me.

There is significant downside risk! If Sidara walks away (they lose credibility making yet another marginally higher offer), and no other bidder emerges (both more likely than not imo), we'll be back down to 140, at least for a while. Rather you than me, buying at 185!

TW is pretty good on the avoid/sell/short side of things. On the buy side...not so much. Besides OPTI and SBTX, one could mention KEFI (may yet come good, but has been jam tomorrow up to now), BST, SLE - off the top of my head
