OILSTONE AFTER BUYING A RIONEGRINO BLOCK
The Argentine firm is leading a kind of competition that Chevron made to sell the Rio block Estancia Vieja-Puesto Flores, after the withdrawal of Central Resources.
The independent oil company is advancing in the purchase of the Estancia Vieja-Puesto Flores rionegrino block, an area that Chevron put up for sale in 2016 and of which it still could not get rid of.
According to official sources, the Argentine firm is heading a sort of competition that the American made to sell that block, the only one of which owns 100% in the province. From Ro Negro.
This operation of rights has the peculiarity that the license of concession of the area expires in 2017, reason why the firm that finally acquires that asset must renegotiate a extension of 10 years with the Secretary of Energy. This is a process that will be done concurrently with the purchase, according to the newspaper "Ro Negro".
The entry of Oilstone in the negotiation comes after the failure of the intention of purchase by Central Resources, an independent oil company of the United States that has participation in the Neuquen Basin but that is in a process of withdrawal.
Sources close to that negotiation said that Central had signed a memorandum with Chevron to negotiate bilaterally for those blocks, shielding the possibility of another company getting in the way. In the sector, many have taken that preference to the friendship that the owner of the smaller firm, Paul Zecchi, has with the outgoing business manager of the oil giant for Africa and Latin America, Ali Moshiri.
However, the withdrawal of Moshiri, who will step down in April 2017 and a reevaluation of the value of those blocks would have led Chevron to withdraw from the deal.
In addition to Chevron, other companies want to get rid of blocks in the province of Ro Negro. YPF is also trying to get rid of a number of marginal areas such as El Medanito, Barranca de los Loros and El Santiagueo, which already have an offer from Aconcagua Energa, founded by Diego Trabucco.
In addition to these fields, YPF will seek to leave its holdings in Loma Negra and La Yesera (controlled by Chevron) and Agua Salada, managed by Tecpetrol.
