Whatamess.The shares went into oblivion together with the company.Who should refund the shareholders,and where does the money come from?The Government certainly will not.there is no crock of gold. As for jailing the directors,the only way this could happen is if could be proven that they continued trading when knowing that the company was insolvent,this is a criminal offence.Difficult to prove,and would take hours of accountancy to find the fraud.It would not get your money back though unless you took out civil proceedings against the directors,and this would be costly and unlikely to succeed.

LSE39-Presumably the �5200 showing on your Halifax statement is the price you paid for the shares.As Carillion is now bankrupt the shares are worthless.Unfortunately ,harsh as it may seem you have lost the lot.

Snige;I wouldn't hold your breath:Shareholders are way down the pecking order,after unsecured creditors,pension fund deficit and HMC.I doubt that there will be enough for pay in lieu of notice and redundancy payments,and the government will be liable for this.After the liquidators have had their fill I doubt that there will be anything at all left.It's a hard old world when this happens,everyone gets burned.

kenj.-Rosewall has hit the nail on the head.=That is exactly the situation.,unfair as it is on the lender,who could have sold the shares if he still had possession of them before the crash.Now he has lost the lot with no possibility of redress.

Vijaykuve-Your statement is not clear to me.Trade placed(and presumably paid for)on Friday 12th.Carillion shares suspended on Monday 15th.Settlement date 16th.January.You say that the market would not settle the trade so the funds cannot be paid.If this is the case,will the client get his money back,and if so,when?
