Private landlords currently do not pay NI on their income - This is a massive potential target come October.

Limited company landlords are in the tax system.

if I do get a state pension I will donate to a charity of my choice as I don’t trust any government to make good use of that money.

yesterday i was invited to a tax landscape seminar, here are the main points.

the tax gap is between £35 - £40 billion

rachael reeves is an economist (qualified) so love her or hate her, she knows what’s she’s doing.

the money needs to be raised in 1 to 2 years so any changes will be immediate.

potential targets, bearing in mind they will not touch vat, ni, and income tax.

non dom

stamp duty

council tax

cgt

inheritance

pensions

fuel

beer

buy to let income owned by individuals not limited companies.

the general thought from the panel is cgt will increased to 28-30% as they will want owners to keep selling assets.

basically, there will be lots of immediate tinkering around the edges without spooking growth.
