flow for BP financials has been good and I expect the same in H2 yet the SP is meandering sideways! Perhaps not dissimilar to those indices hitting double or triple tops driven by 'growth' prospects.
Oil and 2nd hand car valuations etc currently saddled with the blame for inflation whilst transitioning to green.
Yet inflation is only 'transitory' and gone by Christmas whilst BPs transiton will not be complete until 2050. I expect many in the population will still be driving and flying in fossil fueled vehicles in 5 or 10 years time and I am seeing just as many new plate fossil fueled vehicles on the road. So I am not surprised the market is confused by the ambiguity in the 'pricing signals'.
While the SP is frustrating many, Q3 profitability outperformance looks assured. Q4 will also benefit from [$XBn] completed disposals too. Demand (volume) is clearly driving the concern for inflation but in the macro environment, supply chains seemingly 'disrupted'.

For me, the BP strategy is positioned to operationalise and monetise that ambiguity:

If inflation runs at 4% pa, the final payment (purchasing power/ cost) is reduced by c50%. That is good for BP. Also shareholders should get more distributable cash eg currently growing div by 4%.

We talk alot about 60% BBs but 40% is held back to strengthen balance sheet and Q2 strengthened working capital as well. I assume BP have built the peaks and troughs into their glide path and for H2 probably current course and speed including additional asset disposal proceeds and excess profits over $60. More green project wins improve sentiment and will attract volume and underpinned by a growing div to counter inflation fears.
All the above should also attract bondholders want to escape capital erosion if interest rates rise.
We dont know the future but BP is sailing toward it. I dont need to abandon the boat for a life raft yet !

But the Fed is not worried about printing more money or that inflation is anything other than 'transitory'.
Meantime US indexes seem to be rising in thin air. Just seems of sync and the narratives not 'harmonious'

Someone posted earlier that an increase in interest rates would rotate money from growth to value stocks. Perhaps we see a correction this month or next back to stalwarts like BP

well, thrwing off cash, divs, buybacks, H2 looking very good and 2022 forward green energy to be priced in, its in everyones portfolio. Currently the ftse workhorse bouying liquidity in the indexes imo

disruption. So you can attribute sky high valuations to cyberspace/ tech stocks but you need oil to deliver the goods in the real world...go figure
