"Solid mines: two companies unite to exploit iron in Souanké
Thursday, August 8, 2019 - 19:39
Avima Fer and PW Mining signed a memorandum of understanding on August 8 in Brazzaville to jointly operate the iron at Avima Mountain, a rich iron deposit located in the Souanké district of Sangha Department. on the border of Cameroon and Gabon.
The agreement was initialed by Mr Socrates, promoter of the Avima project and Leonard PW Mill, boss of PW Mining, in the presence of the Minister of Mines and Geology, Pierre Oba. The exploitation period has not been defined but it has been indicated that the production capacity is estimated at twenty-five million tons per year. The iron to extract, said the mining experts, is of superior quality, 80% clean and does not require cleaning before being shipped.
" This agreement allows these two companies to develop and exploit the iron ore deposit at Mount Avima. It is an open pit mine located in the forest of Souanké. It is a rich ore, which does not need a prior treatment, and which can be loaded directly into a boat, in the direction of the areas of consumption, among which, Europe and China ", said the director of mines and geology, Louis-Marie Djama.
In relation to the distance of the site with the port of Pointe-Noire, the minerals to be exploited will be evacuated via the port of Kribi, a Cameroonian ore port, located about three hundred kilometers from Souanké.
" Given the difficulties of transport to the port of Pointe-Noire, given that it is huge volumes of tons of iron, we will pass through the ore port of Kribi, located south of Douala in Cameroon, "said the promoter of the Avima Iron project, Mr Socrates.
Speaking from time to time, the Minister of Mines and Geology welcomed the successful completion of this project since 2003. Pierre Oba emphasized that its implementation is part of economic diversification."
