I know I've said it before but the truth bears repeating - FAR struggles to get half a dozen trades on a good day and yet it is listed on the main market. They've had two placings of half a million quid in the last 6 weeks (over 10 million shares) and yet the SP remains resolutely fixed to 9p despite there only being buyers of maybe a few thousand pounds worth each day.

The simple reason for this is that those who have the shares to sell do not wish to take less than the 8p they bought them for. Good luck to them if they ever need to place out any more shares.

Recently, Guizhou Juneng Century Science &Technology Co., Ltd. plans to invest 20 million yuan to build a 10MW / 40mwh vanadium battery industrialization project in Meie Industrial Park, luoxiang Town, Congjiang County, Qiandongnan Prefecture, Guizhou Province.

The project will build three 10MW / 40mwh vanadium battery production lines, with an annual production of 12000m2 perfluorinated ion membrane and 2000 vanadium battery stacks. With a total construction area of 6000m2, there are 3 production workshops, office buildings and demonstration centers, and corresponding production and auxiliary equipment are purchased; as well as decoration works, supporting construction of plant pipe network, roads, walls, greening and beautification. This project only produces perfluorinated ion membrane and electric stack (including pipeline system), not involving the production and storage of electrolyte and electric control box. After the production of electric stack, it will be transported to the battery assembly manufacturer.

Introv - $10 per pound of V2O5 does indeed work out at $40-$45 FeV price per Kg of contained V. Of course any V2O5 which goes to VRFb's is likely to be much higher purity than the bog standard stuff they chuck into furnaces and we're likely going to be making Ve out of something else all together.

Lindon - there is something very interesting about the precise nature of the dispatchable generation described - specifically the requirement to only be dispatchable between 05h00 and 21h30 - i.e. not outside of those times.

Of course by-and-large this matches with human demand profiles, it would be crazy to build a grid which did not, but the problem facing your manufacturers of solar panels is that it is unlikely that they would be generating PV electricity at either of these time. Thus if you are going to make your PV farm meet the dispatchability criteria it has to fall back on energy storage twice a day (at least).

The early morning demand is supplied from the battery, which has been charged by the grid overnight. Mid-day demand is provided direct from the solar panels, which are also using their extra capacity to recharge the batteries. Late in the evening the batteries discharge a second time to meet demand then.

This is two charge-discharge cycles per day. It is what Fortune and Pat Frampton were talking about when we visited the Eskom battery test centre last year. It is perfect for VRFB's which get cheaper the more you use them, unlike Lithium-ion which just dies more quickly.

You will see Levelised Cost of Storage calculations start to consider these kinds of duty cycles more and more - up until now they have only worked on the assumption of a single charge-discharge cycle per day, because that's what Lithium-ion can do, but this will not stay like this, because humans get up before the sun and typically stay awake for more than 12 hours.
