PITW - I can't remember where I read it in the Angus document, but they said the test data wasn't shared.
To be honest drilling a well isn't rocket science. Used Good Oilfield Drilling Practices and you have set yourself up nicely. Of course there are unforeseen problems...drilling in one quadrant of a field can be more problematic if more stresses have been applied there.
The biggest issue I can see with UKOG is have they learned from their mistakes? At BB they made the same mistake twice which is not good, as well as not using the same procedures used by previous oil companies who have drilled in the area without issues. I would like to think they have spent this time doing a post job review and pin pointed operational / planning failures. The is standard within any oil company set up. You always strive to cut the cost and time it takes to drill a well.
And yes you learn so much from the first well you drill in a field. You can adjust your ROPs by using a different choice of bit, different fluid system, different mud weight, change the drilling assembly configuration, change the well profile, change the casing programme to case of problematic formations etc. It's almost like having crystal ball
