"BMW, for the first time in any of its vehicles, will use an in-cabin camera to address a critical challenge with semi-autonomous driving systems -- ensuring the driver is paying attention to the road. Level 2 systems require the driver to take control of the vehicle in case of an emergency....."
"The 2019 X5 uses a suite of ultrasonic sensors, cameras and radars to drive semi-autonomously under certain conditions.
BMW's driver-facing, camera-assisted Extended Traffic Jam Assistant system, part of a $1,700 package, will be available in December.
The optical camera, mounted in the instrument cluster, checks to see whether the driver's eyes are open and facing the road. The camera doesn't record in-cabin activity, BMW emphasized.
It's an approach Cadillac has taken with its Super Cruise semi-autonomous highway driving system. It is a less intrusive alternative to steering wheel position sensors some automakers rely on for monitoring driver alertness."

Great example of what can happen when a company has multiple suitors. Even a very well researched FTSE 100 stock can be undervalued by the market. Comcast saw the full value in Sky. Whole bid process took 2 years.
September 6, 2018 — "Toyota is investing $500 million in ride-sharing company Uber to get self-driving vehicles built on the platform of the Toyota Sienna minivan.
The vehicles will be based on Uber’s autonomous system and the Toyota Guardian automated safety system, in addition to using Toyota's system for connected vehicles.
The Guardian system is used to protect the vehicle if it encounters a potentially hazardous situation and will allegedly take action if the driver does not react.
Guardian also monitors the driver’s eyes for distracted or drowsy driving by detecting if the driver falls asleep at the wheel as the vehicle approaches a curve in the road. When a driver closes his or her eyes and does not follow the curve, the system should step in and steer the car to keep it in the correct lane."

Referring to Ken's to Proactive Investors interview the other day:

Good commentary from @kroeger_ken. Remember @seeingmachines are in quiet period ahead of publication of year end results and NO business updates can be given in media interviews before then. Guardian Gen2 is clearly now shipping or RNS would have been issued.
“I believe the 4Sight tool will change the way we see chemistry and drug design forever,” says Blundell.

Interesting article, possibly posted on here in the past as dated 19th April earlier this year. Essentially discussing Autonomous about simulation and real world miles.

Interesting update on Tesla and Autonomous driving tech. One line in the article states:
"Just about everybody working on a fully self-driving system—the kind that doesn't depend on lazy, inattentive humans for support—plans to use lidar, along with radar and cameras."
So in my view whilst widespread fully autonomous cars are realistcally still far off, us "lazy, inattentive humans..." surely need top notch SEE tech to support us in the meantime ;).

I ask as we know Denso have a DMS product that maybe Toyota are happy with (maybe it has been improved).
By the way I am a SEE investor and have been for about just over 2 years, average buy in cost around 4.9 pence, so do want us to succeed.
What are people's thoughts on this news, also just mentioned on BBC News at One. Denso part of the collaboration. Affect our chances of Toyota DMS win ?

Any ideas why Bosch have this webpage stating their use of Steering Wheel tech for Drowsiness detection and not SEE tech ?

Still think @BYTONcars is OEM5 for @seeingmachines DMS. All will be clear in time. Timescales all seem to line up though. https://t.co/u25C9IsFYJ
However, interesting article from this 'My Volvo' magazine published Sept 2017. Read pages 7-10 of the actual magazine (or put another way pdf pages 5-7). Article titled 'Its time to sleep' and note the small mention of 'Driver State Estimation' on the last of this page range amongst other safety systems they mention.
The end of the 'Sleep' article does at least end with: "In any case, a fully autonomous reality is perhaps a human generation away. But until
then we need to wake up –......."
