Bamps, you can only make an ICE less inefficient but never efficient.... They are inherently inefficient. Making the exhaust emissions 10% better just won't cut it for global warming they would need to become 90% better to be anywhere near good enough for the long term health of the planet. And how do you scrub Co2 out of the exhaust?
Apart from lack of knowledge, range anxiety and thinking your life a little less convenient, there is a lot about EVs that will make them more desirable over time than an ICE. There will be applications and areas that people live that will mean they are not the best choice but hands down as a city car right now they are a no brainer (price restrictions of course).
quote "Of the 106,681 survey participants who drove to work every day in a car, 95 percent of them travelled less than 40 miles to work, with the average commute distance being 13.6 miles. "
So you need 500 miles reserve in your tank for?? 2 trips a year?
More cars more congestion, think being able to sit in a quiet pollution free traffic jam everyday travelling to and from work..... still in a jam but not dying whilst you do it.
Yes yes, electricity has to come from somewhere before you bring that chestnut up.... even a coal fired power plant is more efficient in supplying electric for EVs than petrol in an ICE..... and over time the amount of energy created by green means will continue to improve making them even more efficient in carbon terms. And a coal fired plant does not deliver children harming fumes on the school run but in a far away place, whilst not perfect still better.
I also love a lot of the reasons people are put off by EVs and using them, because it will impact the individual in some way and they would rather forgo that impact than give a damn about the greater picture..... The 'I'm alright Jack' scenario.
