The latest Investing Matters Podcast with Jean Roche, Co-Manager of Schroder UK Mid Cap Investment Trust has just been released. Listen here.
Lots of chat here today around the second RNS and very little around the first! I may be wrong, but I think it is worth bearing in mind we have had two investment RNS from HNW investors over the last year, both would have done due diligence, and the second would have had to have been aware of todays second RNS. They both stand to do well (and presumably expect to do so) if the promises come good. For me therefore, the second RNS is a means to ensure we get the prize - others disagree perhaps, and I'd rather sentiment today was up not down, but I'm not selling my shares any time soon (and I'm in for a fair few!!)
This is effectively a start up company, Private Investors generally don't get a look in for such things. There is always risk, but taking todays first RNS plus the earlier one, it is clear some HNW investors are prepared to stump up large sums. One assumes they have seen things we haven't, and have done due diligence. Based on that, traders may stand to make a quick buck (or lose it) but those wanting to hold for a year or more have (in my opinion) a better than even chance of making a decent return. As always, DYOR and don't put in what you aren't prepared to lose .
Deanosbooty - as I understand it, Bed and Isa means you SeLL the shares from the trading account, then use the money to buy back shares - they don't just transfer them - so the bid/offer spread will make the difference.
The last RNS said "during the first two weeks of December 2022," - it is clear that some have interpreted that as the first 14 days - it could be also interpreted as the first two full weeks - it is also (in my view) a good sign that we haven't had any RNS yet as if the funding round had failed I would expect it to be announced. Remember that TNT do intra day RNS quite often - so who knows. Also, don't forget that we have the US listing pending activation - I wonder if that would be activated at a similar time to a funding announcement - just a thought!
viera - we already have one lot of investors who came in much earlier. There is a TV programme called Dragons Den which might give you a clue - but in this case, there is a high powered team who have been able to demonstrate what they are planning to deliver. Start up companies need capital - often a lot - I worked for a small one who went through eye watering sums of money based on demonstrating a concept to HNW investors. There is always a risk, but the HNW investors will have done a LOT of due diligence - we shall see, but I see nothing to suggest the funding is not happening.
There is a bit of a balancing act - the factors are LTH, traders, and free float. Those who have been in for a while (I suggest longer than 9 months) are seeing greater potential than downside regardless of timescales - for myself, I've been in since Boxhill, and am currently about 80% up on my investment - but I see a greater return than that and am holding. Traders will possibly take the opportunity to trade, though as we aren't a penny share perhaps we have fewer of those. Investors will possibly take the opportunity to top up, which in turn reduces the free float. DYOR as always.
Not sure about "plenty under water" - personally, I'm about 100% up, but have no intention of selling anytime soon.
I'd like this to hit the sort of levels talked about. BUT as we are UK investors and prefer past performance to future promise, my suspicion is that investors may still be cautious. My own target is based on the price I imagine us to be at this time next year - though I'd love to have that price sooner of course!!
My respect goes to Biker - I have not got the knowledge to trade shares, knowing that if I bought the price would probably sink like a stone, and if I sold I'd miss out on high growth. Hence my strategy of buying and holding based on my assessment of medium term prospects - I continue to hold here for what I believe is a likely outcome. Others must do as they deem to be best for them.
Cromw3ll - agreed, and I think some people have forgotten the terms of the initial investment - over £5 paid, with the option of buying more at a vastly reduced price ONCE the market cap hits a certain point (sorry, vague as I'm not going to dig back over the RNS). Now, I don't know about anyone else, but if the share price is high enough thanks to our HNW investors, I'm not going to grumble about that option!
Each to their own Biker as we've said before - I didn't think I'd see this price again, so have topped up
gary25 - I can see the share price falling tomorrow/Wednesday if no news as some will have assumed it's a done deal before end of November. HOPEFULLY we do get the news, but e shall see. If it falls, it will be a temptation to top up!!
Draiggoch - I got my US markets confused - the listing I was meaning was in the Annual Report RNS - "It is for this reason that, since July 2022, we are now dual quoted on the OTCQB market in New York. We have not activated it to date, but plan to do so in the final months of 2022 via a high-profile launch in the United States. The purpose of this process is that it fulfils a longer-term strategy to navigate toward a listing on NASDAQ in parallel with our UK AIM Listing in 2025.".
Part of me wonders if the NASDAQ listing may be included in the RNS, which would then perhaps explain the lack of news last week with Thanksgiving in the states. Just a thought in my head! Who knows what will happen to TNT shares with a live listing on that exchange?
Wise words here - as Biker has alluded to , never invest money you aren't prepared to lose - my reasonably high stake came because of a redundancy - once I'd got a new job, and left over redundancy money was money I'd not had before and was therefore prepared to lose the lot - so my risk profile for that money was different to my day to day investing. I've been in here since Boxhill days. For new investors, this is indeed a very different proposition to most shares - we have a (probably) soon to be activated NASDAQ listing, and although the company has shares in issue it is effectively a start up - and we as PI's have the opportunity that normally only HNW investors have of getting in at the start. A risk for sure, but the team on board suggests that the scales weigh in favour of success. JUST my opinion of course.
summers - I'm now 14k up and (though I'm sure Biker will tell me I'm mad) I'm not selling! I'm a long term holder and my target price is some way north of here - and I'm reasonably confident it will be achieved!
djm1 - I'm not trading - I'm not confident enough to know when to sell or buy back in - and I know the free float is low, which means IF this starts to motor it will do so very quickly. I'm not worried about day to day fluctuations - I have an exit point in mind. As to lack of RNS, I'd rather Richard focused on building the business so that we achieve our aims.
We have been led to believe that HNW investors will put money in for a price in excess of £10 a share. For those expecting the price to hit that this year, I have some unicorns you may be interested in buying. we know that UK investors are hard to please, and tend NOT to price shares at future value - so I don't see the price reaching the HNW price that quickly. BUT if you are prepared to hold, ask yourself WHY a HNW investor would put money in at that price - they do tend to want a return on their money. So short term, a decent return on todays price is likely. For those prepared to buy and hold, DYOR but I think there is a good chance of a MORE than decent return.
When the last funding round was completed, people refused to believe things despite knowing that HNW investors had paid a premium- one assumes based on very good due diligence. This time round, it seems the same is happening. I'm not an expert, but I would assume the next investors have also seen things they like AND done due diligence and AGAIN are paying a premium on the levels we can buy at. Take note from the RNS that talk was of late 2023 for income streams kicking off (if I read it correctly) so don't expect that an investment here will give you a 5 bag or more in days - lovely though that would be! I would suggest though that any money invested at current levels should see a reasonable return this year, and one would hope a very decent return if you hold for at least a year.
as it happens, I'm very nicely in profit thank you as I've topped up on dips. Your strategy works for you, my strategy of doing research and holding long term based on that works for me. Please STOP assuming that there is one right way of investing.
