For the present, I continue to see this 'Spark Energy' story as a canard, or an elaborate practical joke. Possibly being run out of some seedy downtown office room in Sydney by a couple of pranksters intent on (a) taking money off really gullible people and (b) having a barrel of laughs over how many journalists they can hoodwink with their 'story'. Just the map heading the article whose link you sent tells the entire story: it's a joke. Compare the Halifax 2C figure to that in RPS's CPR. They don't match. And their 'prospects' being 'updip' of Halifax. 'Updip' in fractured basement? Sorry guys, but that 'conventional' term just doesn't wash.

Good point. Though I guess we'll just have to wait and see. I suspect that even if Hurricane has seen some signs of 'connectivity', they may want to submit the data for third-party analysis and / or corroboration before releasing definitive news. DST results are straightforward, derived from direct observation of instruments, etc., whereas leaping to a geophysical conclusion regarding the field in general is interpretive, so might take longer.

Me too! And probably all real 'holders' here. But let's not allow enthusiasm to run away with us. Our discussions regarding WW / Lincoln 'connectivity' remain hypothesis and speculation. Although (I suspect) the DST will have included measurements to see if there are signs of such a thing, it's quite possible that the RNS may make no mention of it.

In that case, no harm done. If you don't know much about the oilfield, it's quite understandable thet you may put two and two together and get three.

Yes, the DWH was a Transocean rig. But it was chartered to BP America from newbuild in 2003, and became a 'pet rig'. With all the drawbacks that entailed, and waivers on inspections that should have been done, etc., etc.

Transocean is a good and reputable company. And it's good that Hurricane works with them, because it seems to be mutually beneficial. But the Macondo disaster has nothing to do with either GWA nor GLA. Plus lessons have in fact been learned...

To my knowledge (which may not be up to date), Macondo has not been successfully re-drilled. Despite available technology, there are still certain geological formations where angels fear to tread.

Essentially, yes.

These are the kind of 'tests' done between the two producing wells on Lancaster already, with the results already published by the company.

The same applies with Warwick ? Lincoln: whether the gauges in Lincoln have 'seen' something related to the WW well. And if that's the case, maybe going some way to confirming the 'connection' hypothesis, ie that GWA is one big contiguous field.

I have no 'inside info'. But there's something with feathers, floats on water, waddles around when it's on land, and goes 'quack'. So common sense leads me to believe it's a duck.

There's absolutely no way to 'second guess' a DST. Duration of flow periods (flaring), shutins (no flare), are entirely dependent upon thé data being acquired, real-time. Other considerations may applu as well. Daily costs, weather forecasts, and so on.

Somehow, I get a 'nice feeling' about this latest well, and the possible read-across to Lincoln.

But I could be wrong, and don't want to 'ramp'.

Excellent post. Good to read something by someone who's obviously got a bit of understanding of the whole affair.

But also, a little addition. The GoM operation was run by 'BP America', following the post-John Browne splitting of BP into different, semi-autonomous 'profit centres'. Not a single 'Brit' was involved with the Macondo operation. But Obama immediately targeted Head Office in London, and let's face it, Hayward's remarks were ill thought-out (or rather spontaneous) so fueled ire and subsequent witch-hunting. Or should that be money-hunting?

I have no intention of 'switching' (despite its seeming popularity these days). So remain male, just as I was born.

Mind you, although I'm not religious, some of those faiths believe in reincarnation. And if that's true, I certainly want to come back as a woman. Why? Because I could use Tampax. And why would I want such a thing? Because seemingly, if you use Tampax, you can go water-skiing, play tennis, fly aeroplanes, ride motorbikes, have no worries during restaurant evenings, and so on...

I doubt it, 'cos there wasn't a 'tree' installed on the Macondo well. Though maybe your friend works for Cameron, which built the BOP. And yes, the set of blind / shear rams which were closed didn't centre the pipe, and thus the well didn't get properly shut-in. The design (it was a longstanding design fault) has since been modified. And yes, I suppose a BOP ram setup could be thought of as a sort of 'valve'.

Oh for goodness sake! Now one can't mention male hens here without getting a whole bunch of asterisks inserted!
