I have no idea whether he was good at his job or not, but there is one possibility. When companies are out on the fund raising trail, potential lenders/investors make judgements about the composition of the executive team, particularly the CEO and CFO. Perhaps there has been some negative feedback that they didn't consider him up to the job and tacitly made his replacement a condition of a funding package. I've seen it happen on many occasions and it's never a happy situation.
Mind you, if this was indeed the case, I would have at least expected a slightly more fulsome and gracious statement from the company.
Whatever the truth, it clearly wasn't a happy departure.

I don't recall making that prediction, although I stand to be corrected. I was very specific about saying I did not anticipate anything happening immediately after the shackles came off.

As for BHP, and this may come as a terrible shock for you, large shareholders talk to their investee companies all the time - unless they're planning to do something nasty. So, who knows, you may be right.

That's right Quady, absolutely no reason for a CEO to have a chat with his company's largest and most important shareholder, is there? It never happens, does it? Particularly when said company is at a critical phase in its development and has two very hacked-off shareholders.

Once all monies have been divied-out will you retain the shares as the company becomes a cash shell? I guess if they are effectively 'free shares' it may make sense, as there could be a possibility of someone taking it on - although it may not necessarily be the cleanest of shells. The significant advantage it would have are the tax losses, which I'm assuming could be carried forward.
