In a sense, it's a pity you've never run a company, if you had you'd have a much better understanding of the dynamics and thought processes. NM and the team aren't sitting around the table saying 'oh well, it hasn't happened so far and as long as will keep saying we're going to production, it never will'. Part of what they will be doing will be considering the real threat the 'diverse' register poses. You know, the same 'diverse' register which you feel is a great asset, whereas it's actually a huge weakness.
I think virtually the only thing you and I agree upon is that this company is worth a great deal more than the current market cap and that NM has done a superb job in getting us to the position of being a hugely attractive target.

As ever, Q, your analysis completely ignores the fact of both BHP and NCMs involvement and your equally naive assumption that they will be happy with their respective 13% shareholdings.
Come on, admit it - they aren't just going to sit there and do nothing, are they?

If only this country had established a Sovereign Wealth fund with our North Sea assets. Instead, we frittered it away on current account spending. This was one of the most appalling mistakes made by successive governments in my lifetime. Let's hope Equador manage it better than we did.

Novice, interesting point of view. So, you genuinely believe that nothing of note will happen to move the sp over the next few years? No developments at Porvenir, no BFS at Alpala? No development of other assets? And, critically, no corporate developments? No funding package? etc, etc.
Given you believe this to be the case, why don't you sell now, invest the money elsewhere for a few years, make some money and then reinvest in due course at the same price?

I also believe a jv is a distinct possibility, although I'm not at all convinced that would be in our best interests. In fact, I'd be very disappointed if we went down that route. NM appears to share this view.
My point was some people only see this share through the prism of our our perspective and this is a fundamental mistake.

It seems to me that when arguing for the independent route to production, some people are failing to ask themselves the most fundamental question, which is ; why on earth would BHP (or NCM for that matter) allow the most important discovery (i.e Equador, not just Alpala) in recent history slip from their grasp?
Of course, the answer is they won't.
Although I happen to believe there will be a takeover of the whole shooting match, I fully understand there are many other possibilities, all with varying degrees of likelihood.
What we have unearthed is quite simply far too important to be ignored by any of the majors, and they will not do so. Unless NM breaks his pledge of no jvs and no partial sales, there is zero chance of us progressing as an independent entity.

the obvious answer to the current weakness is that quite a few daft small punters piled-in before the 15th in expectation that the moment the standstill agreement ended BHP would launch a bid. Disappointed it hasn't happened they're selling up. Perhaps this combined with the fact there are very few buyers has driven the price down?
This theory lacks the allure of a conspiracy theory but maybe this is just a case of Occam's Razor.

Q, the point is that a clever conman, and they are virtually always clever, will start off by appearing completely credible. They will reel-in shareholders to a totally convincing story, but slowly, over time, cracks will appear in the facade and then suddenly you realise you've been had. So, yes, you start off trusting a board, but that most certainly doesn't imply they are actually trustworthy - as history has proven time and time again.
