Jerry, how/why would the BHP shares be cancelled ? I guess you're suggesting a buy-back? If one was launched (most unlikely) it's something that has to be offered to all shareholders.

First of all I cannot see anyone being prepared to accept a standstill agreement. It was a very unusual condition and was a measure of how keen BHP were to get involved that led them to sign-up to something I'm sure they'd never normally sign. My guess is they've regretted it.
The second point relates to the anti-dilution clauses, which will remain in place after today. For this reason, a fund raise would not be part of a defence strategy.

Imagine you are looking to buy, or sell, and you read the post which suggest not too much upside - something we all know to be wrong. You then base your decision on an erroneous statement. I know this may sound unlikely, but people invest for far lesser reasons. I'm sure you get my point.

All you need to do in order to maintain sanity is to look at the trades. Every time you see a sell think carefully about the person behind it. Try to imagine how really very stupid they are to be selling now. You'll think "gosh, there really are some extremely stupid people out there. Thank heavens I'm not one of them". I promise you, you'll feel better about yourself.

Gino, interesting thought but the outcome isn't known yet and the market wouldn't react until it is. Of course, if it does go ahead there will be dilution, but will it affect the sp? who knows.

Colonel, you are right, a lot of fascinating news is on the horizon and it astonishes me anyone would sell against that backdrop. Still, takes all sorts, I guess.
Of particular interest will be the revelation of what percentage of CGP shareholders have taken-up the tender offer, which closes tomorrow. I think we'll be able to gauge quite a bit from that news.

second day in a row the RNS service is knackered - in fact the whole Stock Exchange web site is suffering a mental breakdown. Fairly recently they launched a new web site and this is when the problems started. This is what happens when you hand things over to IT people.
