The latest Investing Matters Podcast episode featuring financial educator and author Jared Dillian has been released. Listen here.
Well Colonel we've had our differences vis a vis SHG and HUM in the past and given the news I couldn't resist a post. Firstly, I've not come to gloat - HUM hasn't exactly done brilliantly recently either. Secondly, compared with your posts way back, I thought you've been fair and honest and very insightful covering today's events. And thirdly given our original arguments they've all been proven a bit moot given what has actually happened. Funny thing investing in shares.
All my original objections to SHG were relating to the jurisdiction in which SHG operated. Not least danger of the company being taxed to death. Well since then the main man responsible for this perceived threat has died from a disease he claimed didn't exist and from today's announcement the arrangement it seems a face saving solution to reimburse the company what it is owed without admitting a U turn. Mind you the company will still be kept on a short leash as further allowances against corporation tax will be subject to further audits etc.
Well my original objections have been lessened but oh my god the rest of the RNS - what a horror show. Reminds me of HUM's Q1 update but at least Betts hadn't done a runner like the Sainted Z and co seem to have done.
Isn't what they've done insider trading?
Question. DD at Selin. DD = Diamond drill?
Don't disagree - the pumping was supported by good news but people are impatient...
and now we're getting the dumping...
Who was that guy before Dan - Europa Metals? Thought is was a spoof at first
then ignore him...
I don't know why people get so hot under the collar just because of a post that doesn't fit their view of the stock.
Calm down. Owning a share is not like be a member of a sect. Fear and loathing is all part of the game.
If you read a post that you don't agree with, consider this. Is it just mindless speculation, a common occurrence. If so then just treat is as the flotsam and jetsam of the cloud based world that it is. Ignore it.
If on the other hand it contains some information, data, considered ordered arguments then test them against your version. You're free to reject of course but it worth noting that this is exactly the process fund managers go through when selecting stocks.
Rather than being angry be grateful - the other guy has spent some time and brainpower in giving you the opportunity to strengthen your understanding of the stock.
Sotolo et al - your comments are welcome as far as I am concerned.
There you are dying of thirst in the deserts of Mali waiting for salvation and one 1 but 2 gold route buses come along on the same day. CORA & HUM.
Mind you shame about the timing of the CORA shares - they're up >50% today. Still mustn't grumble...
@miln - yes I hadn't made the connection between the surviving "offensive" syllables. Nice touch about the bedfellows too. Perhaps bed will be next for the bleeping out.
We live in a mad mad world....
@Cplloyd "feeling I am missing something."
You speak for us all....
No problem, just checking I was reading the a/cs right. I first say this stock when recommended in the FT so came at it in a positive light. However, when perusing the a/c I was turned off by the complicate accounting which represents the whole process of generated cases into cash as well as the continual glug glug of cash going out the business.
I'm not in the business of deramping - people need to make their own minds up but to me the fact that cash has gone from £8m to £1m says only one thing - a share issue is on the way or perhaps more debt.
Either way the status quo, to me, look unsustainable and to talk about a progressive dividend policy when the business consistently burns cash looks either irresponsible or worse - window dressing designed to tempt investors in who can't be bothered to look at the figures. You may doubt it but many investors use dividends as a proxy for cash flow.
Present company excepted of course!!
You mention that MANO was cash generative this year. Where? Please indicate where in the accounts this is so because from my reading the opposite appears to be true...?
I haven't been on the board recently - shocked to hear TBTT has been banned.
Why? How?
I don't know how many company representatives are on this board madly spinning the line that there is nothing to see so please move along please ladies and gentlemen but I have my suspicions.
But, but, but the non issue of share is a massive issue. It was the cornerstone of the financial arrangement underpinning the new mine in Guinea which in itself was set to transform the prospects of the company. To simply issue a terse statement that the issue was not after all going ahead and then absolutely nothing is, quite frankly, a poke in the eye for PIs.
If nothing is mentioned in the next quarterly update I think PIs should organise again and force a response from management. We did it a few months ago and got a transitory response and promise of better behaviour. That now seems to have evaporated...
Anybody got a link to the Vox podcast or is it not available yet? I have looked but couldn't spot it...
Good question. I was wondering that myself. Obviously it could be something to do with the company that we are not privy to. External to the company I note that there is increased concern re: Covid now that Zimbabwe and SA are going through a southern winter. Maybe there is disruption to the production due to illness....
Test message:
"I think the share price should stop pussyfooting around now uncertainty has been removed with Friday's announcement." Indeed I think we should all be **** a hoop about the RNS and go out and buy a few faggots to fire up a celebratory BBQ once it stops raining cats and *****es (male dogs optional).
I rather suspect this test message won't see the light of day....
Tackle eh?
Sounds a bit fishy to me....
Just imagine being greeted - how's it going me old tackle...
Madness. The whole world is going mad and we're not even allowed to make fun of it.
@username. I'm afraid I'm very old fashioned - happy to offend anybody if I can make a point or get a laugh. However, got to be prepared to take some stick back in return. That's the deal.
So by now you've probably guessed I didn't go to the trouble of *** out the roach. Instead the system did if for me. I don't know if you read the FT by Janan Ganesh wrote an article saying that English won't be destroyed from without e.g. the all conquering French language or Mandarine but with within. When you see every ***er *or* gets bl***ed out - you can begin to understand his has a point!
As for the he/her bit that's just me getting p8ssed off that only maleness is toxic in today's world. Femininity couldn't possibility sink to such depths could it? Fairer sex and all that!
Anyway glad you spotted it and happy to put it on the record
@metalhead. My post was tongue in cheek. Unfortunately he/she belongs to a class of insect such as mosquitos, ****roaches etc. You just have to learn to live with them and take precautions when in danger of coming into contact. Hard lessons indeed but perhaps they do serve a purpose. People might be wiser next time and whilst taking opinion (even his/hers) into account come to their own independent conclusion. That way we all contribute to the market being just a little bit less crazy!
