The MOU signed with Power China was done to big fanfare in China with top level govt officials involved - they’ve stuck around with us for years and only last year penned an infrastructure contract committing to 1 billion pounds of funding necessary to facilitate coal extraction from Phulbari.

⬆️ a list of BRI projects - in total there are 27 energy projects, of which, some have come online - Barisal/Banshkhali/ (Power China has involvement in each one), some shelved and some (Phulbari) in the pipeline.

There’s a small chance we could be discussed next week, given energy is on the agenda and BRI is of big importance to both parties.

Sentiment has flipped on it’s head with recent comments coming from Interim Govt wanting to open pit mine Bara and Phulbari with one box cut. That alone was enough to awaken my GCM slumber, but nothing is guaranteed in life so only risk what you can afford to lose (as is the case with any share) - however a warning to those who believe and are trading this (YNIR) it would be a shame for you to miss out on a blockbuster rise here for the sake of a few % points.

Anyone posting on the forum has an agenda, most are invested and the ones that aren’t are ‘warning’ others, are doing so praying for a cheaper entry. With interim results out next week and likely plenty to get your teeth into given recent developments, traders are in a desperate race against time to get back in.

The way the share price moved today (15% uplift on more sells than buys) one might think they have wind of what’s about to come as they so desperately bid for shares (only joking, that would be market abuse!!).

Maybe it also explains the increase in trading volume with previous year’s interim results dropping anyway from 23rd-30th March. Either way, looking forward to them. GLA

The above will be legislated by new govt whoever it may be, pretty much as it’s adopted by the interim govt. They are almost definitely in favour of open pit mining as recent news articles suggest or at the very least it’s a credible option - there isn’t a practical alternative.

By the time elections come round, if talk continues as it is today, we’ll be trading at a much higher price than where we are now. Exciting times for sure. GL all

Imo the whole open pit (phulbari/bara) discussion back in 05/06 was a set up. Protests such as those that took place did so via ‘paid actors’ (as is the case everywhere, when murky politicians are involved). A set up as a means to import expensive coal and the elites at the time, lining their pockets. Nothing else justified a blanket statement from Hasina banning potential green light to cheap, readily available better quality coal via open pit method - It certainly wasn’t the locals (no matter what lies you’re fed) - as usual, they were used as a smoke screen to justify the cronies lining their pockets.

With Hasina gone, it was all or nothing for GCM holders, no matter who took interim charge, whoever followed would adopt the interim govt ideas on everything, that’s how politics works (again paid actors, riling up locals resulting in Hasina absconding from Bangladesh) - a ‘nobel peace prize winner’ took interim charge - the importance, it gave an insight into who’s behind the actors and it certainly wasn’t the Indians (thankfully for us).

Previous ‘issues’ stopping us from a green light on paper have all already been addressed by BOD - resettlement plan, already agreed to by locals - studies on social impact, agriculture, water management all been done (available on gcm website). The real reason was hasinas gravy train as Redeye perfectly put it.

The worst decision of all at Barapukuria was to go for underground mining. This meant 80% of the seam could never be mined. Like Phulbari, bang next door, it was tailor made for open cut.

‘BCMCL engineers believe that the Barapukuria-Phulbari are adjacent coal fields and if properly planned, one 'box cut' can be developed at the southern part of Barapukuria coal field for developing both the fields. The 'box cut' can optimally be used for expanding the mine towards north for Barapukuria coal deposit and with some can be expanded towards the south for extracting coal from the Phulbari basin. The coal basin represents a world class size of mine and the quality of coal may attract investors (provided the government decides for open cut mining) as a techno-economically feasible option’

Agreed mankini - from the article i posted this morning:

In a totally different place compared to the abyss we were in a few weeks ago - imo this isn’t a typical Tang pump to get away a placing (that usually involves a Mou/mention of Chinese partners).

Thunder, YKIR is a long term holder of GCM but unlike some of us has traded this instead of holding (with hindsight it was the right choice) - scroll through his posting history and you’ll find he’d already answered his negative comments himself with positive ones in the past.

The news over the last few days has shifted sentiment on its head, way better than what any of us could’ve hoped for.

2.5p is nothing, one bit of news could send us back above last year highs of 12p in an instant. YNIR and others who are still hoping for a retrace, is it really worth a 20% discounted entry on 2.5p when there’s potential for us to end up in the pounds?! It’s really not so, do yourself a favour and join the ride as you are believers like the rest of us otherwise wouldn’t be wasting time posting on bb.

Imo it was a crappy update. I’d have liked more info on what they’ve actually been doing this year, what happened to joint presentation put forward to previous govt? What happens with DG given they were lobbying previous govt (were any clauses in place in case govt collapsed?), how does recent events affect relationship with PC etc. Just more info on real life GCM goings on and not a rehash of bbc news bangla.

It doesn’t change the fact we’re now 100x better off with Hasina gone. New elections in only 3 months, a new direction incoming exploring own energy resources.
