The government has been asked by the Nuclear Industry Association to give a justification decision for Rolls-Royce SMR’s reactor design.
Justification is a regulatory process which requires a Government decision before any new class or type of practice involving ionising radiation can be introduced in the UK.

Rolls-Royce has secured funding from the UK Space Agency under the National Space Innovation Programme (NSIP), which adds more support for the development of its space nuclear power technology.
The new £4.8m award from NSIP Major Projects will help to significantly advance the development and demonstration of key technologies in the space nuclear Micro-Reactor.
Rolls-Royce is preparing to introduce an upgraded version of its Trent XWB-84 turbofan that it expects to deliver a 1% improvement in fuel burn efficiency for the Airbus A350-900 airliner. The company aims to achieve certification later this year for the first production example of a modified engine now undergoing assembly.
