To share a good piece of advice that some anon once shared with me on an LSE board:
Find a stock that meets the following criteria:
1) It boomed recently - everyone got excited.
2) Then it crashed and drowned in negative sentiment
3) Then it has been drifting for a while, slowly bleeding the sp as everyone got bored.

If there's still a solid underlying business, buy and multibag when the market corrects itself.

Worked for me.

I've actually been cashing out most of my holdings this year as I intend to buy a new house soon. Unfortunately, I won't have much of an investment portfolio left once that's paid for, so I haven't been doing much "research".

Jest indeed, but I do think that most people severely overthink when it comes to punting on AIM. All these books written and methods developed to assess stocks. Don't even get me started on idiots relying on historical charts to trade event-driven low liquidity companies. How come still a good 7 out of 10 punters lose money on AIM?
Imho, look at the list of small caps, pick ones that are a real business and appear to have an mcap well below expectation. Understand why the mcap is so low. If there's a good reason, then avoid like plague. If there's no clear good reason, then take a punt and cash out a 100% gain.
Simples.

If you pick the name right, they seem to go up in value ;)

Buy stock in it.

Val - yes, but there will always be sellers to feed the closing short.
I had to sell off 15% of my position over the last 2 days just because I was way overexposed to this after loading up in low £3s. Thousands of punters will be in the same position and selling off not because £4 a share is a good deal, but just to balance off their positions. 20% profit is 20% profit after all.
Then you have all the day traders, etc.

Been in it for over a year now. Seems to be good solid stock. Just too boring for AIM. Buy, hold and forget.
Expecting a rerate within the next 10 months or so.

And pop goes the weasel. I'm finally in the blue again, thanks to all the averaging down.
