Hello Tro, 56 and yes council were great employers back in the day for all in there areas .

Ironically when I set up on my own building I ended getting the local maintenance contract for the local authority on the refurbishment of council houses.

But eventually that came to an end.

A race to the bottom started and never stopped.

Thanks Kenny, it’s a concern. Reality is if you get 70p to lay a brick, 45p is the real number over a 12month period because weather will stop you . Then the frost comes and 4 degrees and rising before you can lay em.

As a bricklayer you don’t get paid when it rains. It rained non stop last year and lads packed in the trowel and found other inside work for guaranteed wages weekly.

I am a bricklayer and know only too well how it affects your money,plus check out on Facebook bricklayer jobs lads are looking for work,that’s the real world not some think tank ,number cruncher. No money in the game when it rains and look at the coming months of winter and think how many wages are affected.
