Oxford Nanopore (ONTTF) currently trading at $1.77, volume looks fair too..

Market consolidation can be triggered when two factors come into play, namely historic low share prices and/or valuations coupled with high visibility of being cash flow positive, in ONT's case it has just raised further capital which should see it through to profitability.

There is also a degree of luck but the above has been my experience when holding companies which have been acquired, Plant Healthcare is a recent example.

I note several of the companies within the diagnostic sector have grown through multiple acquisitions over time, biomerieux has a fairly consistent track record in this regard.;

There are plenty of others which fit the bill although biomerieux is an existing holder.

CAPEX will start to drop away whilst the benefits of investment in automation will start to bear fruit, the company has stripped out loss making businesses and is far leaner than it was on hiring.

Its a great endorsement, hopefully they will continue to accumulate along the way.

I wonder if the market is set for consolidation, ONT has a huge amount of patients around its tech which maybe of use to larger players such as Illumina that have deeper resources to exploit.

It will be interesting to see now most companies are emerging from the post COVID dip/overstocking situation.

GoCPI, some fair points, S4 has its detractors but nothing like on the scale of THG, perhaps the bids put too much focus on 'what can be' and currently what is, causing much of the frustration .

Its tempting to see a company that's had an approach trading at a fraction of the offer price, then hop on-board for a return or another bid hence the excitement around twitter, S4 lacks this even though its more likely to be on the receiving end of a bid imo.

SMS is certainly a bit more diplomatic with the city, but personally I don't think that has much to do with current sentiment.

Clearly major shareholders don't hate him given the high percentage of votes cast at last AGM, yes, there are bound to be disgruntled private investors or the odd brokerage that missed out, but hey.. you can't make an omelette without breaking a few eggs ..

I think we are pretty much on the same page when it comes to economic triggers or catalysts.

That has to be a drag on the share price, Carlyle Group disposing of of just over 1%, surprised as that's a bit of a haircut when things are looking up.

CD currently stands at 11.36% as mentioned earlier, it will be interesting to see if this increases as (and when) the share price rises.

This is a huge fund which holds a small amount of THG, however that could increase if their weighting changes with more favour towards CD and disposable income.

Also interesting to note in 2016 Oxford Nanopore was valued at £1b, here we are eight years later at little more than that despite serious commercial investors.

It certainly does feel like that but I guess its the change in direction which is of importance, interest bearing securities are less appealing prompting more inflow to stock markets, thats the theory anyway.

The key thing also is how these trackers change their model to reflect a different rate path, iShares went from 11.24% CD to 11.36% today so a small step in the right direction.

The bottom line I guess is the risk v reward, markets must offer a better return than sticking the cash into a bond or similar.
