EU counter measures are likely to include ECB going negative again on rates, this is a sizeable shock to the market so probably justified. UK 2 quarters of contraction may follow with smaller reductions.

If logic were to apply, long FTSE short CAC but when did logic ever play a part in markets..

Almost as bad as Canada, this should put UK head and shoulders above our neighbours competition wise, this is a huge gap.

This round of tariffs is the real deal and likely to be with us for Trumps duration as President.

The 35% Canada tariff was out of the blue, and possibly designed to shake up EU at the negotiating table.

Canada like Europe is a big market for US goods including agriculture, whey in the red but still off lows seen with China incursion.

What happens in the next week or so will impact trade until the end of this decade.

Dax is down 1% along with CAC, FTSE only down 0.5% which I guess is a reflection of our current trade deal.

It reminds me of way back when Ireland introduced a significantly lower rate of corporation tax, this in turn attracted a lot of international players and tech giants adding enormously to Ireland's spectacular growth, Ireland stood fast until recently against international pressure to increase the tax, this didn't go down well with the US admin which lost a huge amount of tax revenue - it was so successful that Ireland refused to even accept some tax income from Apple, EU courts had to force them to do so,

Incredible really, but perhaps a sign of bullish UK market benefiting from EU separation and lower tariffs..
