And then they saved themselves by selling their prized asset for half the cost and unused machines for 1/4 of their cost.

How can you say it's great news when you don't know how good the machines are, you don't know how much there is left to pay, you don't know how many machines they are getting and you don't know how how much that will eat into the $20m cash in the bank.

Argo do mine "equivalents" as well though don't they (zcash and others I think), so it could have been those coins allocated to Argo labs.

Not sure Argo Labs have lost Argo bitcoin, rather Argo have had to take away BTC (or equivalents) from Argo labs to sell.
Either way Argo labs have not proved themselves to add any significant value to Argo with whatever it is they're doing. Other than the BTC (or equivalents) they hold, their value must be very little.

Ah that makes more sense actually, so Argo would have gone from c25% holding to c20%, 155m = c£9m at 6p. As Chae mentioned though, even if this is the value in the accounts (which it may or may not be), whether that's achievable if they wanted to sell is another question.

That's a recent valuation, so I can see a justification for that being used. Whereas the prior one (which also happened to be 6p) might have needed some fair value adjustment from being so far out of date. Not sure what the accounting rules are around that.

I was basing the 6p off the reference price for the Pluto/Emergent deal, I think that should be considered the most recent valuation, certainly for accounting purposes.

Pluto should be valued at 6p per share, that's the most recent valuation, from what I can see Argo hold 121m shares so I'd expect c£7m for Pluto.
