TOP NEWS: Shell invests in gas project in Malaysia's Sarawak

Mon, 05th Sep 2022 09:18

(Alliance News) - Shell PLC on Monday said it is investing an undisclosed sum in a renewable energy-powered field in the Malaysian state of Sarawak.

The investment in the Rosmari-Marjoram gas project via Shell's 80% subsidiary Sarawak Shell Berhad and Petronas Carigali Sdn Bhd, in which Shell holds 20%, "will help to deliver a secure and reliable supply of energy, responsibly and efficiently," said Shell Upstream Director Zoe Yujnovich. The offshore platform will be powered by solar power.

Shell expects gas production of up to 800 million standard cubic feet of gas per day to start in 2026.

"The project comprises a remotely operated offshore platform and onshore gas plant, with infrastructure that includes one of the longest sour wet gas offshore pipelines in the world stretching more than 200 kilometres," the energy company explained.

Rosmari and Marjoram are deepwater sour gas fields discovered in 2014.

Shell shares were 1.0% higher at 2,348.00 pence each in London on Monday morning.
