SIMEC Atlantis Completes Offshore Operations On MeyGen Phase 1A

Mon, 22nd Oct 2018 11:48

LONDON (Alliance News) - SIMEC Atlantis Energy Ltd said Monday it completed offshore operations in the Phase 1A of its flagship tidal power project MeyGen, located near Scotland.

The energy projects owner said that two Andritz 1.5 megawatts turbines were returned to service and that the Atlantis 1.5 Megawatt turbine was successfully retrieved for ancillary systems maintenance.

The Andritz turbines have now recommenced generation at full capacity, the company added.

These offshore operations were completed within time and budget by Atlantis Operations UK, a division of SIMEC Atlantis Energy, the company said.

"This achievement will have material cost reduction implications for future scheduled and unscheduled maintenance events," the company said.

In July, the company said that Atlantis Operations UK retrieved the two turbines for inspection and maintenance following the diagnosis of a generator fault by onboard monitoring systems with repairs expected to be completed within two months.

In a separate announcement on Monday, SIMEC said it appointed Andy Richardson into the role of chief operating officer of the company, a non-board role.

Richardson previously worked for EDF, where he was executive director of thermal & renewables division.

SIMEC shares were trading up 1.7% at 14.75 pence each.
