Pan African Keeps Some Essential Services Live During SA Lockdown

Mon, 30th Mar 2020 12:20

(Alliance News) - Pan African Resources PLC on Monday said a selection of its operations in South Africa have been allowed to continue during the government-imposed lockdown due to Covid-19.

A lockdown in the country came into effect last week, in a bid to contain the spread of the deadly virus. Businesses providing essential services would be allowed to remain open, however.

Pan African said: "Essential services specific to affected Pan African Resources' operations include security services, pumping and ventilation activities, metallurgical plant maintenance, inspection of underground workings, management and monitoring of tailings deposition facilities, waste management and water treatment facilities and other health and safety related services.

"Pan African Resources supports and is committed to all government efforts to contain the spread of Covid-19. Of the group's total staff and contractor complement, only 20% (excluding security staff) are involved in the essential services."

Pan African shares were down 4.2% at 9.20 pence each in London on Monday afternoon. In Johannesburg, shares were 4.8% lower at ZAR2.00 each.
