KAZ Minerals Starts Commissioning Works At Bozshakol Clay Plant

Thu, 29th Sep 2016 06:51

LONDON (Alliance News) - Copper mining company KAZ Minerals PLC on Thursday said it has completed construction and commenced commissioning works at the Bozshakol clay plant in Kazakhstan.

The clay plant has an annual processing capacity of 5 million tonnes and is expected to commence production of saleable copper concentrate this year.

Completion of the plant brings the total ore processing capacity at Bozshakol to 30 million tonnes per year, including the main 25 million tonne sulphide concentrator which began operations at the start of the year.

The ramp-up of the main sulphide concentrator is progressing in line with expectations, KAZ said, and the 2016 production guidance for Bozshakol remains unchanged.

"I am very pleased to report that the Bozshakol clay plant has begun commissioning. Construction activities at Bozshakol are largely complete and we are now focused on ramping up copper output from this 100 kt per annum, long-life, low-cost, open pit mine," Chief Executive Oleg Novachuk said in a statement.
