LONDON, May 7 (Reuters) - Regis Schultz, the chief executive of British sportswear retailer JD Sports, said he did not think it was true that chair Andrew Higginson wanted to remove him from his role.
Last month JD Sports said Higginson would step down as chair in July after just four years in the job.
Media reports said he quit after failing to get board support to oust Schultz.
"I don't think it's true," Schultz told Reuters after JD reported full year results.
"It's a very simple and very boring reality, it was a mutual decision for Andy to leave and we all wish him the best and I thank him for his support because he built a very strong board," Schultz said.
"Concerning myself, my last performance review was very positive with Andy and all the discussion was about building the team for the coming three years and to make sure that I was happy and engaged. That's facts."
Higginson has declined to comment. (Reporting by James Davey; Editing by Kate Holton)
