Haydale Graphene signs deal for graphene commercial applications

Tue, 22nd Aug 2023 10:21

(Alliance News) - Haydale Graphene Industries PLC on Tuesday said it agreed to collaborate with Petronas Technology Ventures Sdn Bhd, the technology commercialisation arm of Petroliam Nasional Berhad, to functionalise graphene for product applications.

Haydale Graphene, a Carmarthenshire, Wales-based technology solutions company, said the deal marked an effort to accelerate the commercialisation of graphene-based formulations in various different industries.

The agreement runs through to the end of 2025 and will see both parties explore graphene for further commercial applications in battery cells, composites, coatings and thermal materials, among others.

Haydale Graphene said the collaboration will also cover knowledge sharing between the two parties.

"Haydale is delighted to have signed a collaboration with Petronas that cements our commitment to working together on developing innovative solutions and driving progress in the commercialisation of graphene and advanced materials use in the energy industry," said Chief Executive Officer Keith Broadbent.

"Our expertise in nanomaterials and our functionalisation technology compliments Petronas' commitment to sustainability and safeguarding the environment and I am confident that this strategic collaboration will be mutually beneficial and greatly accelerate the commercial adoption of functionalised graphene and other 2D materials."

Petronas Head of Advanced Materials Dileezaa Lurthanathan commented: "Petronas is dedicated to research and development in advanced materials and our collaboration with Haydale marks a significant milestone in the drive towards the commercialisation of graphene in sustainable technologies.

"We see Haydale's functionalisation process as one of the keys to unlocking the use of by-products from the energy industry and helping us to move from linear to circular materials to facilitate energy transition."

Shares in Haydale Graphene were down 3.0% to 0.99 pence each in London on Tuesday morning.
