FRANKFURT, April 15 (Reuters) - Vodafone will cut500 jobs in Germany, the company said on Monday, as the groupadjusts to harsher competition and lower fees in Europe'slargest economy.
"We have started a two-year programme," a spokesman said,confirming reports in the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung andRheinische Post.
The company aims to shift some operations to Romania andIndia, as well as considerably reduce starting salaries. Areaslike network technology and customer service will be affected.
Vodafone is suffering because of low price offers forsmartphones from Deutsche Telekom's T-Mobile unit anda regulatory ruling that lowers the fees mobile operators cancharge for calls coming from other networks.
