The world's No.2 oilfield services provider reported a 20percent rise in quarterly profit as drilling activity increasedin the United States and Gulf of Mexico.

The second-largest U.S. toymaker, reported an 8.2 percentincrease in quarterly sales, helped by strong demand for itsboys' toys such as action figures based on "Transformers" moviesand Marvel comics.

Activist investor Elliott Management Corp has taken a $1billion stake in data storage equipment maker EMC Corp EMC.N andplans to push the company to spin off its VMware Inc unit, the Wall Street Journal reported, citing people familiarwith the matter.

Russian steel maker Severstal OAO said on Mondaythat it had agreed to sell its two U.S. steel plants for $2.3billion, withdrawing from the U.S. market at a time of risingtension between Russia and the West and turning its focus to itsdomestic business.

Severstal said it would sell subsidiaries Severstal Columbusin Mississippi and Severstal Dearborn in Michigan to SteelDynamics and AK Steel, respectively, a sale which may allow thesteelmaker to pay an extra dividend and reduce debt.

The U.S. drugmaker bought Dublin-based Shire Plc onFriday in a 32 billion pound ($54.7 billion) deal that willallow it to slash its tax bill by relocating to Britain.

The car maker, in 2003 and 2004, made changes to redesignedignition switch parts on four models but did not ensure thatolder, potentially faulty parts were taken out of circulation,the automaker said in a filing with U.S. safety regulators madepublic on Friday.

Tesco boss Philip Clarke is to quit after Britain'sbiggest retailer warned it would miss profit forecasts, bringingan abrupt end to a disastrous three-year reign.

Clarke, who has spent more than 1 billion pounds ($1.7billion) on a failed turnaround plan, will be replaced on Oct. 1by Unilever executive Dave Lewis, who is credited withrevamping a number of businesses at the consumer goods group.

** ABB LTD, Friday close $22.79

Swiss engineering group ABB and Swedish car andbus maker Volvo said they were setting up a globalpartnership to co-develop and commercialize electric and hybridbuses with fast charging systems.

Philips said on Monday that it expects its coreprofit to rise in the second half of the year after cost-cuttingmeasures, but said 2014 would still be a challenge.

** LOCKHEED MARTIN CORP, Friday close $162.49

Swedish defense company Saab AB has dropped outof a tender to supply Denmark with between 22 and 30 fighterjets because officials expect rival Lockheed Martin to win thecompetition, Danish daily Politiken reported on Monday.

** MANPOWERGROUP INC, Friday close $83.14

The staffing company is expected to have benefited from arecovery in the eurozone economy. Europe contributed abouttwo-thirds of the company's annual revenue in 2013. Largercompetitor Adecco SA, which also gets half its annualrevenue from Europe, said in May that the worst was behindEurope's labor market as the region's fragile recovery helpedgrow its revenues in its first quarter. ManpowerGroup said inApril that it expected revenue to grow 4 to 6 percent during thesecond quarter and earnings per share to grow between $1.26 and$1.34 from 87 cents per share last year. Analysts will belooking for an update on the forecast.
