Travis Perkins CEO Carter to step down

Fri, 29th Mar 2019 07:13
(Sharecast News) - Travis Perkins chief executive John Carter will step down in August after five years in the role and just months after launching a new strategy for the Wickes owner. He will be succeeded by Nick Roberts, currently CEO of engineer Atkins, who will join the builders merchants as a director of and CEO designate on 1 July and take over the full role on 5 August. Carter will remain with the group until the end of the year.Chairman Stuart Chambers hailed Carter's 40 years at the company and 18 as a director, and as architect of the new strategy announced in December to reshape the group, refocusing on improving service to trade customers and simplifying the group, including the planned sale of the Plumbing & Heating business. He pointed to Roberts' current role at the company formerly known as WS Atkins before being taken over by Canada's SNC-Lavalin, where he has been running a "significant relationship-led global engineering, design and project management business"."Nick has the breadth of skills needed to grow the business and to build on the strategy outlined in December. He has deep experience of the construction, design and engineering industries; which coupled with his successes in the adoption of digital, will prove invaluable in driving the group's strategy into the future."In his comments, Roberts highlighted the rapid evolution of customer expectations and sales channels, saying that the board's focus "will remain on best serving our trade customers and building long term sustainable value for all of the group's stakeholders".
