(Alliance News) - Totally PLC on Thursday said it is launching a new business, Totally Healthcare Ltd, which will specialise in healthcare services insourcing in the UK and Ireland.
Totally, which provides a number of UK healthcare sector services, said Totally Healthcare "is focused on insourcing, where hospitals sub-contract medical services/procedures to providers who use the host hospitals' premises and equipment for service delivery, taking advantage of spare capacity typically during weekends and bank holidays."
Totally Healthcare is to provide solutions for insourcing, which will include bringing in its own consultants and nursing teams. The market segment is estimated by Totally's management to be worth between GBP125 million and GBP150 million per annum.
So far, Totally Healthcare has already "conducted a pilot scheme in the Republic of Ireland" where UK consultants and nurses were provided from the UK and patients were treated at their local hospital across a number of weekends. Patient feedback rated the care received as "very good" or "excellent".
Totally Chief Executive Wendy Lawrence said: "We are delighted to officially announce the launch of Totally Healthcare. The group's directors have identified long waiting lists as a fundamental issue facing the UK and Ireland's healthcare sector and we believe that Totally Healthcare is well placed to address this issue. By building upon the existing relationships of the group and its subsidiaries we are confident we can make a significant impact in the fragmented insourcing market, with the ultimate aim of becoming the market leader."
Lawrence added: "We are encouraged by the positive feedback that we have received to date from the pilot scheme in the Republic of Ireland and are also extremely pleased to announce that Totally Healthcare has secured a new contract in Ulster to deliver endoscopy procedures, a valuable starting block from which the business can grow. We look forward to notifying the market of further successes in due course.
"The group has a proven track record of aligning new businesses with the company, as demonstrated by the acquisitions of Vocare and Greenbrook Healthcare, and we fully intend to drive Totally Healthcare's growth and to capitalise on the opportunities within the insourcing market in the UK and Ireland."
Shares in Totally were flat at 8.95 pence in London on Thursday afternoon.
