UK small caps closes 0.5 percent higher, ahead of the blue chips, up 0.3 perrcent, and the mid caps, which close flat.
Talvivaara gains 22 percent, having surged as much as 70 percentafter announcing that shareholders had approved a rights issue to raise capitalto help save its mine.
"The fully underwritten nature of the transaction and the fact that Solidium(the state-owned investment company) and Varma are supportive should be takenwell by the market," analysts at Liberum say in a note, reitarting a 'buy'rating on the stock.
"With near term financial worries addressed we still expect more share pricerelief following the serious balance sheet stress."
Bahamas Petroleum Company surges 26.3 percent after the governmentsaid that the company could continue to drill ahead of a referendum on thefuture of offshore exploration in the Bahamas, which would only be conductedonce the presence and scale of petroleum reserves had been established.
"If there's serious sums of money down there, you can't imagine that (thegovernment) would say no to unlocking a that amount of capital, even if they dorestrict the number of oil rigs," Steve Asfour, head of trading at Fox DaviesCapital, says.
