Mereo Gets Positive Setrusumab Trial Results; Plans Pediatric Studies

Mon, 11th Nov 2019 13:44

(Alliance News) - Mereo BioPharma Group PLC on Monday reported 12-month topline data from its phase 2b dose-ranging Asteroid clinical study of setrusumab, an anti-sclerostin antibody.

The AIM-listed biopharmaceutical company said setrusumab was tested in adults with type I, III or IV osteogenesis imperfecta, a bone disease with no approved treatments.

The primary endpoint of the Asteroid study was change in trabecular volumetric bone mineral density of wrist over baseline after 12 months of treatment as measured by peripheral quantitative computed tomography.

The study has also achieved its secondary endpoint of increase in areal bone mineral density at the lumbar spine at six and twelve months over baseline, using two-dimensional dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry.

Although the Asteroid study was not powered to show a difference in fracture rates, a trend of reduction in fractures was observed in the high dose cohort. Setrusumab was safe and well-tolerated in the study, Mereo noted.

"Based on these data, we are excited to move forward with the preparations for our pivotal pediatric study in children with osteogenesis imperfecta as originally planned, which will be based on a primary endpoint of fracture rate over a 12-month period," said Mereo Chief Executive Officer Denise Scots-Knight.

Mereo shares were trading 22% lower on Monday in London at 39.99 pence each.
