Friday tips round-up: Kingfisher, Kier, Unite

Fri, 18th Sep 2009 06:45

While Kingfisher's shares are not cheap and trade on a forecast 2010 price-to-earnings ratio of 16.3, they have actually fallen back recently from their peak over the past year. Given that trading in the second half is likely to be kinder in the UK and other markets, compared with last autumn, Kingfisher could have further upside. Buy says the Independent.Kier Group, the construction, housebuilding and contracting group, has seen its share price soar by more than 35% over the past six months as investors realised that the sector was not about to be wiped off the map. The problem for buyers is that the stock now looks expensive. Kier is making progress but, until it shows more, it is no better than a hold says the Independent.Kier has a sound balance sheet (year-end cash of £93m) and scope for earnings-enhancing acquisitions. But at £12.77, or 12 times earnings, or up more than 50 per cent since July, the shares have run far enough for now says the Times. The Telegraph's stance on Kier remains buy, although gains are likely to be more pedestrian from here on in after the recent run up in the shares. However, the visibility is good and the rating remains undemanding, it says.Rolls-Royce is a great British company. Its recurring revenue streams from its installed turbine base provide excellent cash flows. This week's announcement that the group is going to be a significant supplier to French energy group EdF Energy is fantastic news for the company's future, but the upside from here for teh shares may be limited in the short term so hold says the Telegraph.Unite, the FTSE 250 developer of university accommodation is raising £82m in new shares through a placing and open offer at 250p, a 12% discount to Wednesday's closing price. If nothing else, Mark Allan, Unite's chief executive, should be congratulated on his timing. When the rest of the property sector was launching rights issues six months ago, Unite held firm. A fundraising that would have been hugely dilutive to shareholders is now hardly dilutive at all. At last night's 279p, tuck away for the long term says the Times.Stockbroker Cenkos has managed to post a 12% rise in revenue to £21.2m and a 13% increase in pre-tax profits at £6.2m. An impressive first-half dividend of 15p has been proposed. Cenkos is a firm on the march. Trouble is, the market woke up to it and marked up the shares strongly. Still, we think there's room for more. Buy says the Independent.Investec shares put on 4% yesterday as the South African lender indicated that losses from bad loans were not getting any worse. Higher stock markets are boosting its asset management and stockbroking businesses. On 17 times current-year earnings, hold on says the Times. Please note: Digital Look provides a round-up of news, tips and information that is impacting share prices and the market.
