IN BRIEF: Gooch & Housego to acquire coatings company Artemis Optical

Gooch & Housego PLC - Somerset, England-based photonics components and systems manufacturer - Agrees to acquire Artemis Optical Holdings Ltd for up to GBP8.9 million. Artemis is a Plymouth, Devon-based producer of thin-film coatings for aerospace and defence, industrial and life sciences customers. Gooch & Housego says the acquisition allows it "to offer both substrates and coating materials of the highest quality" while its "worldwide reach" will help Artemis access new territories.

IN BRIEF: Gooch & Housego interim profit grows amid revenue jump

Gooch & Housego PLC - Somerset-based maker of photonics components and systems - For the six months to March 31, reports pretax profit jump to GBP3.3 million from GBP1.2 million a year prior. Revenue climbs 32% to GBP71.3 million from GBP54.1 million. Citing a positive outlook, declares interim dividend of 4.8 pence per share, up 2.1% from 4.7p. Looking ahead, notes "sustained demand" across its target markets, with its order book as at March 31 growing 3.8% to GBP124.4 million from GBP119.9 million a year ago. Further, notes growth in deliveries into industrial laser markets, especially into Asia. "This has been driven by post-pandemic end customer demand for electronic products recovering strongly, although demand levels are expected to normalise in the coming period," firm says. However, notes continued extended lead times in some part of its supply chain, for which it maintains higher levels of safety stocks.

IN BRIEF: Gooch & Housego reports trading in line with expectations

Gooch & Housego PLC - Somerset-based maker of photonics components and systems - Says it has made good progress during the first four months of the current financial year ending on September 30, increasing its productive capacity "as a result of our refocused recruitment and operational improvement activities". Order book stands at GBP129.3 million as at January 31, compared to GBP110.5 million on the same date a year earlier. Notes trading continues to be in line with expectations. Looking ahead, expects revenue to be more evenly balanced between the first and second halves of the financial year. It will announce its interim results in June.
