Fastjet November Traffic And Load Factor Hit By Tanzania Instability

Tue, 08th Dec 2015 07:52

LONDON (Alliance News) - African low-cost airline Fastjet PLC on Tuesday said its passenger numbers dipped year-on-year in November, while its load factor also lightened.

The company said it carried 62,843 passengers in November, down 0.5% from the 63,146 it carried a year earlier. Its load factor for the month declined to 60%, down 17 percentage points from 77% a year before.

Fastjet blamed the weakness on the prolonged presidential election in Tanzania, which has yet to result in a cabinet being appointed or budget being agreed, as this has resulted in lower demand from governmental and civil service traffic.

"Whilst we remain mindful of the temporary reduction in demand in Tanzania, we expect that this will improve in the New Year when the political environment stabilises," said Ed Winter, Fastjet's chief executive.
