Catenae wins new technology contract to work with Shetland space port

Mon, 09th Aug 2021 11:16

(Alliance News) - Catenae Innovation PLC has secured an order from Shetland-based satellite launch site SaxaVord UK Space Port, it announced on Monday.

The order covers phase one of a three-phase project to deliver a digital dashboard enabling SaxaVord to monitor live satellite operations remotely from anywhere in the world.

The Newcastle-based digital media and technology company will use data from sources including NASA, the European Space Agency and SaxaVord's own systems and then present it using a series of interactive dashboards. It is hoped SaxaVord can then better monitor the performance of ground station equipment and satellites, Catenae noted.

As well as the satellite ground station already in operation, SaxaVord plans to build a satellite launch site in Unst, Shetland, described by the firm as the "UK's leading vertical launch spaceport".

"We are delighted to have received this order from SaxaVord and to be at the forefront of supporting the UK space industry," commented Guy Meyer, chief executive of Catenae.

"The order affirms the company's strategic approach to the development of our technology portfolio, to ensure that it is fit for purpose not just for Covid-19 and other health-related solutions, but also for deployment across multiple sectors."

Shares were trading 0.8% lower at 1.24 pence each in London on Monday morning.
