(ShareCast News) - One of the UK's leading public sector suppliers, Updata, decided to bypass the much-maligned Openreach network where it could on Wednesday, in favour of the fledgling CityFibre.The AIM-traded designer, builder, owner and operator of urban fibre optic infrastructure said the agreement set out the commercial terms under which Updata could access CityFibre's existing national network to deliver services to the public and private sectors.CityFibre currently had 36 major network footprints in Britain, with a financed plan to reach 50 cities by 2020. The company said its network would provide Updata with a flexible, powerful and future-proof alternative to the incumbent networks."We are pleased to announce this important framework agreement with Updata, the UK's leading provider of public sector services and part of the wider Capita Group," said CityFibre chief executive Greg Mesch."This agreement cements CityFibre's position as a key supplier to the public sector, and reinforces our position as an emerging national alternative to Openreach," he added."Our networks will provide Updata with a superior platform over which they can continue to innovate and grow.
