Ceramic Fuel Cells' shares jump on MCS boost

Thu, 25th Aug 2011 15:43

Ceramic Fuel Cells hailed a "significant step forward" for UK sales of its BlueGen after it became eligible for feed in tariffs.BlueGen uses ceramic fuel cells to turn natural gas supplies into electricity and heat for hot water. The product has received Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS) accreditation in the UK, meaning BlueGen customers can benefit from the government's feed-in tariff scheme. The company's shares jumped 10% on the news.Customers will now be able sell surplus electricity they generate from their BlueGens into the national grid and earn revenue during the process. Brendan Dow, managing director of Ceramic Fuel Cells, said feed-in tariffs played an important part in the UK's clean energy policy and becoming eligible for the scheme was a significant step forward for sales of BlueGen.The feed in tariffs are 10.5p per kilowatt hour of electricity generated, plus an additional 3.1p per kilowatt hour of electricity exported to the grid.
