HOUSTON, Jan 9 (Reuters) - A 70,000 barrel per day crudedistillation unit was not shut on Wednesday at BP Plc.'s 405,000 bpd Whiting, Indiana, refinery contrary to a report byan energy industry intelligence service, sources familiar withoperations at the refinery said on Thursday.
Genscape Inc said its monitoring equipment detected a dropin temperature on Wednesday in a furnace stack serving the CDUcalled Pipestill 11A, the smallest of three crude units at therefinery.
A crude distillation unit does the initial and bulk of crudeoil refining at a refinery. It provides feedstocks for all otherunits. (Reporting by Erwin Seba; Editing by Grant McCool)
