Imperial Tobacco is set to release its preliminary full-year results, which are expected to reveal a 2.9% drop in the company's earnings per share to 204.6p on the heels of a 5.1% fall in reported revenues to reach £7.45bn.The company is expected to have taken a hit from foreign currency translation effects on the value of sales reported in sterling. Excluding the above however its revenues may be flat. To take note of, approximately two-thirds of the cigarette manufacturer's business is in Europe.Spanish lender Santander will also release its third quarter financials on Tuesday. The consensus of analysts is for an improvement in earnings per share to 14 euro cents, from 9 cents in the year ago quarter.Stateside, tomorrow are the mid-term elections and some observers believe the Democratic party may lose control of the Senate, the upper house of the US Congress. They see it is a sort of referendum on President Obama's tenure which will, in essence, ratify that he is now a lame-duck president who will have difficulty passing legislation of any consequence through Capitol Hill.
